The 2018 release of Leconfield's Coonawarra Cabernet is a dense brooding red, the bouquet is fragrant, ripe cassis and blackberry enhance with cedar and cinnamon through French oak maturation. This is a wonderful varietal example of a Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is medium to full bodied with great persistence of flavour, and retains the elegance expected of high quality Coonawarra reds. Tannins are textured, silky and long and the finish is clean and bright. The style and elegance of this Cabernet will complement the finest beef and venison, through to rich vegetable ragout and pasta. "The oak, classy and tighter grained here (18 months, all French; 43% new). The fruit, more restrained: currant, mulch, bitter chocolate and truffle. The structural bow, of greater tension. This is linear, precise and long. Very good. Again, the pH and tannin management, far better than in the past. This will reward mid-term cellaring. It is good to see that Coonawarra, or at least at this address, is finding swagger again.
