The Knappstein Riesling 2017 vintage has aromas of fresh lemon drops mingle with Granny Smith apple and floral notes. There are generous citrus flavours with chalky texture and minerality. This is followed by grapefruit characters, uplifted by a touch of mango on the palate. These flavours arrive in waves and a line of juicy acidity guides the wine through to a soaring finish.Review: "This can be found for well under $20, which makes it fine value.Bath time perfume, ripe almost tropical fruit, and a certain stoniness. It’s juicy and flavoursome, with clean acidity, a gentle chalkiness to the texture, and a crisp brown lime finish of fine length. In short, it’s a lovely thing to drink, and right in the slot now." 93 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, February 2018, Drink: 2018 - 2021+

Winery & Vintage Info

Knappstein takes a natural approach to viticulture, with particular attention to sustainable practices and reducing environmental impact.

The Environmental Management System (EMS) implemented at Knappstein works in tandem with local initiatives to achieve a minimal impact on its surrounds whilst supporting sustainable practices at a viticultural, winery and office level. Extensive undervine mulching, the use of livestock for winter weed control, and the introduction of biological fungicides significantly reduces Knappstein's environmental footprint.

Based on a long-term sustainable approach, Knappstein has a key interest in soil health, vine nutrition and biological activity. Finding solutions to viticultural problems with reduced chemical applications is a real focus in order to maintain a balanced, natural biodiversity.

Knappstein has been able to reap the rewards of this careful cultivation of its prized vineyard sites. The company will continue to invest in the natural environment to ensure a sustainable future for winemaking in the Clare Valley.

The fruit is sourced from a selection of vineyards situated mainly around the Watervale sub region of the Clare Valley including our Ackland Vineyard. Vine ages range from approximately 10-30 years old. The fruit was handpicked and gently crushed with only the best free run fruit juice used. It was then cold settled and cool fermented with neutral yeast to dryness. The wine was stabilised prior to filtration and bottling.
