This 2017 vintage release Pinot Noir from Curly Flat celebrates the 20th vintage release of this wine. It is crimson red in hue, clear with aromas of fresh violets & dried lavender entwine with strawberry and black cherry to form a fresh, fragrant peak. Leather, fresh earth and autumnal undergrowth merge with coniferous notes, oak spice & black pepper all providing a complex savoury base. The palate is luminous yet mouth-filling red threaded black fruits meet fine suede-like tannin that’s ushered along by an undercurrent of cooling acidity. Fine mineral length meets with an ethereal epilogue of persisting palate perfume. Drinking well now with the best to come over 10+ years.

"I’m quite particular about Pinot Noir. There’s styles I very much like, and those that I don’t but may still rate highly, where appropriate. Anyway, here’s a style I do like, and I’d expect that it will have broad appeal too. As an aside, still clearing a bit of a cold, so I’m perhaps not quite at my best. Codral makes me do, and say, strange things.
The main thing I like here, is that there’s an earthy/mineral thing going on that sets it apart from the pack. Cherry, strawberry, spice, mint, autumnal, yet still bright with cranberry acidity, wonderful graphite tannin, a coolness and composure without compromising this sort of salt-of-the-earth integrity thingy. Finish is pure and mineral infused, with insistent tannin pushing it long. Fair to say I think this is very good, with more to come."
