Distillery Info

One of the few remaining Scottish Lowland distilleries will soon be returning to
operating status thanks to an Aussie. Yes, that’s right an Aussie!

In July 2015, Australian entrepreneur David Prior had taken ownership of the Bladnoch distillery with a vision to resume production and considerable expansion (early 2017 has been reported). Akin to many Scottish distilleries, Bladnoch had a chequered history involving a series of closures and owners; notably 1993-2000, which subsequently saw production restricted in the condition of sale from United Distiller’s (now Diageo) to Raymond Armstrong.

Contrary to popular belief, Bladnoch historically remains as one of the few Lowland
distilleries to have employed double distillation for a strong portion of its working history, with triple distillation reportedly ceasing in the 60’s.

In light of the distillery’s sporadic and restricted production, official distillery bottlings have been exceedingly hard to come by and often restricted to independent bottlings from the likes of Gordon & MacPhail. From these scarce reserves yields the two new expressions outlined below; with word of a 25 year old expression also on its way.

Australia has first rights to these new expressions - a first in itself - which is why reviews are hard to come by. Rest assured Master Blender; Ian MacMillan has crafted two impeccably balanced and richly flavoured malts, stunningly packaged to boot.
