Bethany wines 2019 vintage First Village Chardonnay is straw gold with green highlights. Bright, fresh nose of pink grapefruit, white florals and clove spice. Lovely structured and fluid palate with tight acid and aromatic floral notes swirling through the stone and orchard fruits. There is a balanced fruit weight to the palate but the tight citrus pith and stony minerality ensure there is abundant life and vibrancy coursing through. The wine has great length with a perfect balance of fruit and lightly complexing oak.

Winery & Vintage Info

The fruit for the 2019 'First Village' Chardonnay is sourced from the Schrapel family vineyards in the Barossa Valley on the slopes of the Barossa Ranges, and neighbouring vineyards in Eden Valley.

The fruit is sourced from the Schrapel family vineyards in the Barossa Valley on the slopes of the Barossa Ranges, and neighbouring vineyards in Eden Valley. The cooler climate of the Eden Valley allows fruit to experience longer ripening periods which is perfect for flavour accumulation and intensity. The Barossa Valley fruit offers subtle weight and a complexity of flavours to the palate structure.

Solid winter and spring rainfall followed by a warm and dry January and February led to a balanced vintage with good fruit intensity and structure. The moments of heat were short and dispersed and arrived after the majority of the whites were harvested leading to good natural acidity and balance.

Night picked, destemmed and pressed to stainless steel and 20% new French oak for cool fermentation of 10-14 days. Lees stirring for approx. 2 months post ferment before being allowed to settle naturally and continue to gain weight and freshness through contact with the lees. Stabilised in October 2019 before being filtered and bottled in November 2019. Winery Notes
